Unfortunately enough, neither countries have achived stability yet. I have been spending almost 10 years collecting and facing pieces of fact from those two countries. Knowing very well the altitude of danger I was running into, why did I have to go to Iraq July last year…? I convinced myself, I was there at the begining of the war, I was not going to let me drop out of it. I had to go. However, the actual visit to the coutnry made me realize that things have gotten lot more difficult than it used to be. Having many uneasy thoughts about Iraq in my head, on the other hand a blueprint to visit Africa started to become solid. Being so far away from Japan, domestic media hardly ever touches on African issues. But the reality is, there are numerous countries where many more lives than Afghanistan and Iraq are lost because of civil war and hunger. I wanted to do Africa. I shook off the reluctance and off I went, thinking it was going be another one of my trips that only yields deficit… Africa is a continent of many nations however, this time my country is going to be Sudan - I made my decision. What got me interested in Sudan was a chance to speak with Sadako Ogata, former UNHCR, at UN office inJapan. Now I stand in Nirobi, Keyna, gateway city to African continent.
